Missouri Tax Credits

Lopata, Flegel & Company LLP has access to various 2009 Missouri tax credits, including the Historic Preservation Credit. These Missouri tax credits have been issued by the state of Missouri and are available for purchase by eligible taxpayers at a discounted rate.

These credits reduce the taxpayers’ 2009 Missouri tax liability dollar for dollar. In some cases, depending on the tax credit type and taxpayer scenario, the tax credits may be used to offset Missouri tax liabilities prior to 2009 and generate tax refunds.

The AICPA has identified Lopata, Flegel & Company, LLP as one of the 500 largest firms in the United States, out of 44,000 in the nation. The AICPA has a strong relationship with the 100 largest firms (Major Firms Group) in the United Sates and now their goal is to develop the same relationship with the next 400 largest firms. Lopata, Flegel & Company, LLP is now a member of the Group of 400 (G400).

We have promoted Laurie Griffith to Manager of Small Business Services. Laurie recently obtained her CPA license and has been our current director of the Small Business Services department for several years. We look forward in Laurie’s continued success with our firm and serving our clients with great enthusiasm.

We are pleased to announce the following new members of our firm:

Sara Hennessey joins our firm in the tax department and comes to us with over three years of public accounting experience in addition to two internships in public accounting. Sara has experience with federal and state tax returns with a primary emphasis on individual tax compliance and consulting. Sara is a CPA and has an undergraduate and masters degree in accounting from University of Missouri. Sara is a member of the AICPA and MSCPA.

Colin Smith joins our firm as a member of our professional staff, which includes auditing, tax and business development. Colin’s experience includes audit, transaction support, and business development at Big 4 and multi-national accounting firms. Colin is a CPA and has his undergraduate degree in accounting and masters degree in finance from Texas A&M University. Colin is a member of the AICPA and MSCPA.

Jamie Record joins our firm in the administrative department. Jamie recently graduated from Hickey College with an Administrative Assistant Associate degree. Jamie is a member of the International Association of Administrative Professionals.

Happy Hour with Lathrop & Gage, LLP

On October 27, 2009, our firm co-sponsored a happy hour at Café Napoli with the law firm of Lathrop & Gage, LLP. While we are a full-service accounting firm, Lathrop & Gage is a full-service law firm. Both firms had very high turnout for this event on a rainy, Tuesday night. We believe by forging relationships with other community businesses we can expand our ability and better serve our clients.
